🎉Pirate Pride Day of Caring! 🖤❤️🏴☠️
🌧️ Despite the rain putting a damper on some of the outdoor activities we had planned, our Seniors still made a positive impact partnering with some great community organizations! ☔️ ⛅️
We're incredibly proud of their dedication and heart given on their last full day of school! 🫶🏴☠️
Special thanks to the Riedel Foundation for the dollars for our largest group of students to make over 40 meals for foster families engaged with Coyote Hill!

🎨🌍 HHS alumni and current Mizzou student Michael Hark visited our French 4/5 class today to share his amazing experiences from a study abroad trip to Germany and France with his business class this past winter.
Students have also been busy recreating a beautiful Claude Monet water lilies painting, inspired by their recent lessons on impressionist art. This creative project was made possible thanks to a mini grant from HCTA!

Wednesday, May 1st is Decision Day for the Class of 2024! Seniors are encouraged to wear something that shows where they intend to go after high school: college, work, military. All seniors will be recognized during the day. Stay tuned for pictures this week!

💲🏴☠️ Our HHS juniors and seniors in Dr. Haner's finance classes are getting a real-world education in managing money, thanks to our friends from HOMEBANK! They dove into everything from the basics of bank accounts and saving tips to retirement planning and scam prevention. 🤩
We also discussed the crucial role of supporting local businesses. Keeping our dollars in the community ensures Hannibal stays vibrant and strong. 👏
Special thanks to Quincy Branch Manager Jenna Schrage and former Pirate (and finance student of Dr. Haner) Anna Maple, both of whom brought valuable insights to our students. It’s always great to see past students, like Anna, thriving and giving back!

Today, a group of students visited the College for Life program at John Wood Community College. This program provides a structured environment for students to strengthen their independent living skills to become involved and informed contributors to our local communities.
Through this visit, students were able to experience a local post-secondary education option that can help students continue to develop communication skills, daily living skills, social skills, and the soft skills necessary to live more independently and be gainfully employed in adulthood.

Jesse is there in all kinds of weather, making sure traffic flows smoothly and our kids cross safely. We're thankful everyday, but rainy days especially! Thank you Jesse for all you do!!🌧☔🌈🏴☠️

The HHS History Club took their annual field trip to the Missouri History Museum on Tuesday March 26th. While at the MHM students were able to explore two exhibits. The first exhibit, called Seeking St. Louis is a two part exhibit that traces the roots of St. Louis, along with much of Missouri as a whole. On one side, called Currents, lives of Missourians go back nearly 200 hundred years. From the fur trade to modern day industry, the exhibit also teaches about the Civil War and slavery, along with disasters and successes of St. Louis. The collection of artifacts is amazing. The second part of Seeking St. Louis is entitled Reflections. In Reflections, the students were able to take in much of the city's history regarding sports, music, and everything cultural and social history of St. Louis. The history of the Gateway Arch is also included in Reflections. It is neat to see the other designs for the project that placed second, third, and honorable mention during the competition.
The next exhibit students explored was called Coloring STL. This exhibit is awesome and is designed for all ages. Coloring STL is an architectural history exhibit. The entire perimeter of the exhibit is dry erase material with dozens of notable structures from St. Louis and its surrounding suburban area. Markers are distributed throughout and visitors are encouraged to color and draw on the buildings in the most creative ways. It was super cool to see elementary age kids coloring, along with many senior citizens enjoying themselves doing the same thing! On the inside of the exhibit there are countless architectural history artifacts. From braille blueprints to all different types of masonry building materials, this exhibit does not disappoint. Some of the blueprints on display are blueprints of structures that were proposed, but never financed.
Overall, the students enjoyed the trip tremendously. These students truly enjoy history! We always stop at Chick-Fil-A to eat too, so that is always a plus. The museum staff greeted us and kindly took a group picture for us. The group picture is behind the older part of the museum that was built in 1913 with funds obtained from the 1904 World's Fair. The statue behind is that of Thomas Jefferson, commemorating the Louisiana Purchase. The second picture is a sketch by Andrew Krigbaum of King Kong atop the Old Courthouse with Mr. Coniglio in hand. 😊
